Spicy beef roll

Preparation
  1. In a frying pan sear the ground meat and add the crushed tomatoes.
  2. Add 1 tsp each of cumin, cinnamon and sweet paprika. Season with salt & pepper
  3. Simmer over a low heat until the tomato juice has completely evaporated.
  4. Leave to cool slightly and add the whole eggs. Mix thoroughly.
  5. Spread out a sheet of filo pastry on the work surface.
  6. Brush the entire surface of the filo pastry with melted butter.
  7. Cover with a second sheet of filo pastry. Brush again with melted butter. Repeat until 5 sheets of filo pastry have been layered.
  8. Place the meat stuffing in the centre of the sheets, forming an even sausage shape. Gently roll up the filo pastry, wrapping it around the meat filling.
  9. Place the pastry roll on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Brush the surface one last time with melted butter.
  10. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C, until the pastry roll is golden brown and crispy.
  11. When fully cooked, remove the beef roll from the oven and slice it at an angle into equally-sized pieces. Serve hot.

  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1 small can peeled, crushed tomatoes
  • 5 sheets of filo pastry
  • 2 whole eggs
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp sweet paprika
  • Melted butter, salt & pepper
